Invading players control the Night Hunter, a superior player-controlled infected with an unlockable skill tree, to defend its nests (serving as a spawn point) and kill any attacking player survivors until their limited lives run out. Just makes it that much more immersive though, and also makes you notice how truly valuable are certain interiors and high places.Initially set as a pre-order bonus before coming free to players, Be the Zombie is a gamemode where players can invade other player's games, if enabled. So choose a safe spot up high, or blockaded indoors, or a safe house to fiddle with menus and gear. Don't forget, like in Hard Mode, skill choices or inventory manipulation DO NOT PAUSE THE GAME. So it has its merits, but wow it will be some ride on Nightmare. I've been going on night mission now on Normal, with a base nearby, and really feel a lot more confident, knowing I have all the good weaponry and skills in my maxed level Normal game (about 60% complete and 52% story done with hundreds of good stashed weapons). (The advantage is that Camouflage is mostly so so boring, at least on Normal, that I began to just not use it most of the time.)īONUS: I do find after an hour of Hard Mode Clean Start, that my skills in my continued Normal Game are much superior. But boy oh boy is it immersive and a throw back to your initial first try to the game. Without Camouflage and its attack, without even a Drop Kick at the beginning (which is fairly easy to get though), without Tackle/Ram, without the instant attacks from height, it's a tough slog. Building interiors and height seem the main advantage, but you won't have the Drop Attacks at the start either, but within range to get fairly soon. So getting Power Attack alone seems like a big deal, but there won't be much time on Nightmare, I'm guessing, for Power Attacks. I play solo though.ĭon't forget, early on, the weapons don't increase in damage much for the first few survivor levels there is not much available. I'm not going to try it on Nightmare anytime soon. I'm sure it can be done, but it will be no cakewalk. If you can pull this off on Nightmare - you are the man, that's how I figure it. Otherwise, probably as in Normal, the Story Areas and the Bandit Camped DROPs should be mostly free of special Zombies, with the few virals being the main nuisance. So then this impacts somewhat the Story Quests, when you are between story areas or buildings. I also had a few random goons show up on Hard Mode Clean Start at level 4 (might have been my first Virals hit at level 3, but not very often). One of the other issues that make it more difficult is that you combat the difficulty by trying to increase Survivor Level, but when you do that, you also increase the Virals which are coming earlier, it seems, in these modes. Every death will hit you hard unless you time when to use the DROPS, so that you basically go up a level each set you turn in to the Quartermaster.īUT THE BIG DEAL - Is that achieving game completion on NIGHTMARE from a clean start - RESPECT MAN!! Those are so useful on the earlier arrival of Virals (which in Hard Mode started coming regularly for no reason at all at Survivor Level 4, usually in a staggered grouping of 4).Īlso, you aren't going to have Camouflage or Camouflage Attack for quite some time. The main issue is that you really miss Stomp and Tackle/Ram. I'm currently platooning a Hard Mode from the Start and it reminds one of the old tactics, but you also have to use height and disengage more often. You will have to go back to those old beginner's tactics that you may have forgotten to do this PLUS some new ones with Nightmare Mode as a start. Hey, major props and respect to you if you pull it off on a Nightmare Clean Start.
